Where The Living Waters Flow
The Living Waters are welling up in Central Minnesota. This new congregation welcomes and celebrates the diversity and gifts of all God's children, whatever their religious background or sexual orientation. It is a ministry of the Episcopal Church in Central Minnesota created by, for, and with GLBT people and others feeling alienated from the church.
The Living Waters is
- a safe, nonjudgmental place to share your spiritual journey
- a source of healing for people who feel marginalized by the church for whatever reason (gender, race, sexual orientation, abuse issues)
- a faith community where questions are not only okay, but expected
- a place where GLBT identity and Christian identity are not in contradiction
- and a celebration of Holy Communion where all who hunger for God are welcome at God's table.
This community is "a vision in process." It has grown and changed daily with the hopes and dreams of local GLBT people, clergy, and other concerned Christians.

The name "Living Waters" is from the story of the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4:5-42). It is a story that gives biblical precedent for welcoming, respecting, and offering "living water" to those judged
unacceptable by society. At the well, Jesus offered an unnamed woman welcome, respect, and space for questions about God in a safe place (apart from the disciples' astonishment that Jesus would even speak to her). In its "flowing location," Central Minnesota's The Living Waters also reflects Jesus' prediction that God's children will not have a specific location required for worship, but will worship "in spirit and in truth."
