Like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:5 |
The mission of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour is to make Christ's love known and to welcome all who seek God.
Almost one hundred years ago the people of the Church of Our Saviour took the risk of planning a new building. An earlier historian wrote, "Naturally, in building as pretentious an edifice as the Church of Our Saviour costing $10,000.00, there remained quite an indebtedness after the dedication." In seven years the debt was paid in full.
Today as we approach the centennial of our historic building, the people of the Church of Our Saviour are again willing to take a risk to build a future for our parish and our community. The addition of an accessible, multi-purpose building will make our beautiful, historic sanctuary accessible and welcoming for everyone.
We continue to live out the words of an earlier mission statement: "We trust in God Who loves us to help us in the ongoing process of the discernment of our Mission, and to give us the good grace and the courage to live it."
"We seek to become witnesses to God's presence on our community, fully living our Baptismal Covenant."
As we are Building on History, we take those words from an old mission statement as support for our present vision of an accessible, multi-purpose building. We envision a place where we can welcome community events as well as ongoing and new parish ministries.
As a Total Ministry congregation, we celebrate the priesthood of all the baptized. We believe that each one of us has a gift for ministry to share with our church and our community. With the addition of an accessible and welcoming space, we anticipate an abundance of new opportunities for ministry and for growth.
Blessing BouldersTo build our vision, we need among our living stones the blessing of a few big boulders. Friends and family of Doug and Kay Johnson rolled that first big stone in place with memorial gifts, inspiring our new vision. The Johnson family also provided our architect, Doug and Kay's son-in-law, Richard Fry, of Fry & Partners in Ann Arbor. You, too, can be a "bolder giver." Gifts of $10,000 or more will provide a "Blessing Boulder" in the new building that may be engraved in memory or honor of a loved one. |
Promising PebblesYou may have noticed the pebbles in the stucco of our beautiful church. Some of today's living stones are promising pebbles who are growing fast. Families from Our Saviour's with children under 18 may have their gifts matched. The first $1000 from these families in each of our three pledging years will be matched with a grant from The Spirit of the Heartland Ministry Team. Foundations"Christ is made the sure foundation." We build on faith. Our Anglican Heritage supports us with "Scripture, Tradition, and Reason." In our Baptism we share in the priesthood of Christ. All are called to offer gifts for ministry. | |
