Gifts in Over Abundance

1.0 Liz Murray - daughter of alcoholic and drug abusing parents
homeless and sleeping in the streets and subways
admitted to alternative High School
completes studies in two years
admitted to Harvard University
spoke at International Conference in Salt Lake City this September
compelling message

2.0 Relate the Gospel of John 2: 1-11 to liz and our lives
John's Gospel and the symbolism -
wedding at Cana, Terrible failure of the wine running out, social stigma
Relate to worst thing that could happen today at a wedding

3.0 Mary and intimate scene between Jesus and his mother
Similar to families' intimate talks with one another
The miracle - the filling of the jars - 180 gallons
Jesus' disdain for the ceremonial/purification rites
His focus on the internal and nourishment for human beings

4.0 Wine at the end - the finest of the feast!
Compare to the Eucharist/Communion
Jesus gives Himself freely to us - what we have done before doesn't matter
Unconditional love - all treated the same way
We don't have to earn or deserve His gifts. He gives in over abundance
Same way He gave Liz Murray in over abundance
All we have to do is ask and receive His grace

5.0 May each of us transform the water of our lives into rich wine so that mellow, rich and strong in your grace, we may follow your will in all that we undertake.

AMEN.
