October News

Animal Blessing
In honor of St. Francis, there will be "The Blessing of the Animals" on Sunday, October 3, at 12:30 pm at both Good Samaritan and Our Saviour's. Animal lovers of all denominations and their pets of all sorts are welcome to attend these brief services. Those from St. Stephen's are encouraged to bring their pets to Good Samaritan for the blessing and stay for the Region Meeting to follow.

Vestry Meetings
October seems to be rearrange your vestry meeting month. The good news is that there is so much else going on this month in our churches. Good Samaritan -- Sunday, October 17, 2:00 pm St. Stephen's – Tuesday, October 19, 7:00 pm Our Saviour's – Sunday, October 24, 9:00 am

Diocesan Convention
Our diocesan convention is back on a three-day schedule, which means there will not be Holy Eucharist on Sunday, October 31. Good Sam and St. Stephen's will have Morning Prayer at the usual times. Our Saviour's will have a Service for All Hallow's Eve at 7:00pm.

Happy Birthday?
So my computer calendar and I had a little misunderstanding last month. One of us ate several birthday files. Apologies to those of you we missed. The files are back now, BUT our birthday and anniversary lists are not complete. Look for lists posted in the back of churches to be sure your special dates are correctly included.

Children's Sabbath
The National Observance of Children's Sabbaths, coordinated by the Children's Defense Fund, will be celebrated on October 15-17, 1999, as the Spirit of the Heartland congregations gather for worship at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour on the corner of First Avenue and Fourth Street, NE in Little Falls.
Endorsed by more than 200 denominations and religious organizations, the National Observance of Children's Sabbaths unites tens of thousands of religious congregations of many faiths in speaking out and acting faithfully for justice for children and families. It encourages a long-term commitment to help children and families through prayer, education, service, and advocacy.

Christian Education

EFM is up and running. We have three Education for Ministry groups this year. That's something to celebrate. It's a sign of healthy and growing churches.

St. Stephen's begins a new book study this month, The Cloister Walk by Kathleen Norris. Meetings are first and third Thursdays at 11:00 am. Check the church for location.

Good Sam is doing part of the Shades of Gray series that was originally at Our Saviour's. Consider how we make moral decisions in a church that doesn't tell us what to do. Second and fourth Tuesdays at noon.

Our Saviour's is overbooked with extra events this month. Look for new opportunities for Christian Education next month, second and fourth Sundays at 9:00 am.
